What is Anganwadi-

Before knowing about becoming an Anganwadi worker, it is important for you to know what Anganwadi is. If we understand in simple language, Anganwadi means 'Courtyard Shelter' which is called “Courtyard Shelter” in English. It was started by the Government of India in 1985 under Integrated Child Development Services. The purpose of which was to prevent children from becoming victims of hunger and malnutrition.

The village is provided with primary health care at an anganwadi center. It is a part of the Indian public health care system. Anganwadis also organize pre-school activities for rural children like sports, eating and drinking, literacy etc.

There is 1 Anganwadi Worker and 1 Helper position at an Anganwadi Center Just as people work in Government offices, Government employees work in Anganwadi centers. Anganwadi is also called Courtyard Shelter in English language. The health of the children and women of the village is taken care of in these centres. Anganwadi conducts primary school activities for village children, including sports, their food and education. Apart from this, regular health check-ups of rural pregnant women are also conducted by Anganwadi workers. Anganwadi centers are mostly set up in villages or high population centers where children can come and get education and play. Anganwadis also provide nutritious food to children to maintain their health. A budget is passed by the government for each village anganwadi. Each Anganwadi center is built on a village level population of 400 to 800 people.
